Soldiers of the Fourth Russian Military Base in the RSO Paid Homage to the Peacekeepers
Today on the territory of the fourth Russian military base stationed in the Republic of South Ossetia, there are events dedicated to the fourth anniversary of the tragic events of August 8, 2008 connected with the aggression of the Georgian troops.
On the formation's ground there was a mourning meeting attended by representatives of the command of the Southern Military District (SMD), 58 Army, personnel of the Russian military base. The event was attended by the South Ossetian government representatives, the participants in peace enforcement operations in Georgia, NGO representatives.
The base commander, Major-General Alexander Shushukin read out the names of the heroic peacekeepers who died in August 2008. A minute of silence was observed in tribute to their memory. The meeting was ended with liturgical commemoration conducted on the ground by the base commander assistant for work with the faithful soldiers, priest Andrei Zizo.
Wreaths and flowers were laid at the monument to the Hero of Russia Denis Vetchinov, who died in Tskhinval, as well as on other memorable places in the republic.
Tonight, in the central square of Tskhinval the documentary footage of the tragic days of August 2008 will be shown for the residents and visitors of the city.
