Ivanishvili is Ready to Pay a Fine to Help Kakhetia
The leader of the Georgia Dream coalition, Bidzina Ivanishvili, has called a condition under which he will pay a fine of more than 20 million lari (over $12 million) that has been recently imposed on him juridically for alleged violations during the parliamentary elections campaign on October 1.
"I will transfer this money if it is sent to victims of natural disaster in Kakhetia in July," he said.
The politician reminded that previously he had transferred 80 million lari for these needs.
"The authorities will not be able then to say they have no money to help Kakhetians. An additional source appeared - 80 million lari," said Bidzina Ivanishvili.
He said that under this condition also the former captain of the Georgian football team, Kakha Kaladze, fined 16.9 million lari ($10.4 million) for similar violations, is ready to pay this amount.
Kakha, now an active member of the Georgian Dream, said earlier he was not going to pay the fine, calling it "political persecution".
