The German Intelligence Service: Al-Qaeda successfully operated in Syria
The head of Federal intelligence service of Germany, Gerhard Schindler said "the Syrian rebels" making war with the government of Syria, increasingly come under the influence of terrorists from al-Qaeda.
"Terrorist structures close to al-Qaeda have successfully operated in Syria. Particularly, it comes to thousands of fighters from Jabhat al-Nusra whose role in the armed confrontation is becoming more and more important," said Gerhard Schindler in an interview to Bild.
Meanwhile, according to intelligence reports, the extremists are a minority in the ranks of Bashar al-Assad's opponents. According to the head of the German intelligence service, "the rebel movements are extremely heterogeneous and small in size."
