Panjikidze: Georgia to help provide security at the Olympic Games in Sochi
Georgian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maya Panjikidze, commenting on the appeal of Doku Umarov to “disrupt the Olympic Games in Sochi”, said that her country is “ready to cooperate with Russia on security issues of the 2014 Olympics.”
She stressed that “when holding events of a scale such as the Winter Olympics in Sochi, there may be a danger of their disruption by certain groups - whether a threat of terrorism or something else.”
“I think that the organizers of the Olympics-2014 in Sochi will take appropriate security measures, and Georgia for its part is ready to cooperate to ensure the safety of the Games,” said Panjikidze.
The day before Prime Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili said that “the government of Georgia will promote the safe and successful conduct of the Olympic Winter Games 2014 in Sochi.”
