The European Union to create its own secret service in 2020
European Commission Vice-President Viviane Reding said the EU countries must reach an agreement on enhancing cooperation and in perspective create their own secret intelligence service in 2020.
"The European Union should be on equal ground with the U.S. and present united front in the field of intelligence," said Vice-President .
Her opinion was cited at a briefing in Brussels, by Spokeswoman at European Commission, Mina Andreeva.
She noted that at the present time intelligence falls under competence of the EU member stateы, so there is no сommissioner in the European Commission in charge of this subject matter. Recall that Europe sharply reacted to revelations by ex-CIA officer Edward Snowden about 'wiretapping' European leaders by the U.S. National Security Agency.
