US Intelligence Wants to 'Bolster Morale' of Kiev Forces
James Clapper, director of the US national intelligence said providing arms to Kiev would "bolster their morale" in military conflict with Donbas militia.
"I have been an advocate for arming them with lethal defensive weapons, more to bolster their resolve and bolster their morale," Clapper said Monday. "This is not company policy, this is just me, Jimmy Clapper, speaking. And this is something in deliberation right now among the policy community," Clapper said.
The United States has been providing economic and non-lethal military support to Kiev since the beginning of a military conflict last April. The December US Congress legislation authorized $350 million to arm Kiev forces, but it has not been enacted by US President Barack Obama.
