France Starts Russia's Second Mistral Sea Trials in March
A representative of the French shipbuilding industry said the second Mistral built for Russia is to begin sea trials later in March.
"The ship "Sevastopol" will begin trials as planned in March, with wharf employees on board. But if a decision is made on the "Vladivostok", and the crew from Russia comes to Saint-Nazaire, we will have to make a second sea trial," the representative said.
Under a $1.5 billion deal between Russian arms exporter Rosoboronexport and French shipbuilder DCNS, France had to deliver the first helicopter carrier "Vladivostok" by November 14, 2014. But on November 25, the President of France Francois Hollande announced the shipment would be suspended because of Moscow's interference in the Ukrainian crisis.
