US Decided to Send Lethal Aid to Ukraine
Monday night showed the Resolution to provide Ukraine with military assistance, introduced by Eliot Engel, the US House Committee on Foreign Affairs Ranking Member, was supported by 348 lawmakers, 48 voted against and 36 abstained.
"Resolved, that the House of Representatives strongly urges the President to fully and immediately exercise the authorities provided by Congress to provide Ukraine with lethal defensive weapon systems to enhance the ability of the people of Ukraine to defend their sovereign territory from unprovoked and continuing aggression of the Russian Federation" the resolution stated.
The EU and the US have pledged non-lethal aid and military training assistance to Ukraine. Earlier in March, Obama approved $75 million aid package for Kiev, which would include providing drones and armored vehicles. Moscow has said providing Kiev with weapons will aggravate the crisis in Ukraine, and goes against Washington's position for a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
