Сhief adviser of the Russian Institute of Strategic Studies (RISS), corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, professor of the Academy of Military Sciences of the Russian Federation Vladimir Kozin told "Russian peacekeeper" about the peculiarities of the US strategy of the so-called "Prompt Global Strike" (PGS).
"Prompt Global Strike" is the ability to deliver mostly conventional ammo by hypersonic carrier means in a short time to almost anywhere in the world and strike targets with high accuracy. According to the US Department of Defense, such a blow can be applied "within one hour" after the order was confirmed.
The corresponding US prospective setting involves the creation and deployment in the future of four types of PGS combat means: an advanced hypersonic ground/sea based intercontinental glider (Advanced Hypersonic Weapon), hypersonic hi-tech ground-based volplaning glider (HTV-2), submarine launched intermediate range ballistic missile, capable of carrying a hypersonic volpaning or maneuvering intermediate-range warhead to a distance up to 5,500 kilometers (SLIRBM), and hypersonic airborne cruise missile (HSSV). All these strike means are meant to be based in frontline areas, that is, closer to Chinese and Russian borders.
Vladimir Kozin noted that, unlike nuclear weapons, which in result of their use contaminate large areas of the earth's surface with radiation and cause enormous destruction, hypersonic precision weapons shall doesn't have such dangerous consequences. "The objectives for such weapons are command-post centers, ICBM silos and large military bases, whereas the civilian infrastructure remains intact. Well, at least in theory," - the expert added.
"According to American experts, mass production of such ammo can be started as early as 2017-2018. So far, only a few of PGS' components have been thoroughly tested. In addition Pentagon and the US military industrial complex actively continue working on the deployment of the anti ballistic missile (ABM) system on a global scale,"- said the chief adviser RISS.
According to him, in 2025 a situation can arise when the total number of US missile interceptors will exceed the number of Russian nuclear rockets, limited by the Treaty on the Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive nuclear arms (START-3), signed between Moscow and Washington in 2010. In this case the temptation for the US to strike first - regardless of whether it is nuclear or non-nuclear - will increase dramatically. The fact is that in 2002 US unilaterally withdrew from the ABM Treaty, and thus the number of interceptors they produce can't be limited.
"Universal ABM silos in Romania and Poland can be equipped with standard interceptor missiles belonging to the defensive types of weapons, but also with ground-based cruise missiles and in the future with PGS hypersonic precision missiles. Taking into account the specifics of such weapons systems, and close proximity of their deployment to Russia, such facilities require special attention from the Russian Armed Forces," - says the expert.
According to Vladimir Kozin, in case of an aggravation of the global military-political situation or a serious threat to the national security of the Russian Federation by the United States and NATO, Moscow, guided by Article 51 of the UN Charter, has full right to destroy any nuclear, missile and other military facilities even in foreign countries, which can be used as offensive means or are aimed to destroy Russian ICBMs.
At the same time, to ensure its national security Russia has the right to placetactical complexes such as "Iskander-M" along it's border, as well as sea and air-based long-range high-precision cruise missiles, which have proven themselves successful in the operations carried out by Russian Aero-Space Forces (ASF) against ISIS military objects in Syria.
"In case Russia will sense a serious threat either for itself or its allies and friends, all US and NATO objects suspected to be ABMDs, tactical nuclear weapons or their centralized storage, as well as military airfields, command centers and other elements of military infrastructure will be destroyed by Moscow. Russia can not remain indifferent to the increasing the stockade of US and NATO military bases around its territory and other forward-based objects designed for preventive or pre-emptive strikes against Russian Federation or its allies and friends. Especially when the Pentagon chief has repeatedly threatened to use military force against our country," - concluded Vladimir Kozin.
