Russia, Azerbaijan FMs Have Telephonic Conversation

02.02.2018 12:21

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Azerbaijani counterpart, Elmar Mammadyarov, had a telephonic conversation.

They discussed urgent matters in bilateral relations and on the regional and international agenda, informed the press service of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Recall that Azerbaijan is one of the main importers of Russian military equipment. Over the past ten years, Baku purchased from Moscow weapons and military equipment worth about $ 22 billion.

In addition, Russia as co-chairman of the OSCE Minsk Group plays an important role in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. In many respects, thanks to Moscow's flexible policy, the balance of forces in the South Caucasus is currently maintained, which makes it impossible for a large-scale Armenian-Azerbaijani military clash.
