Russia insists on changing the formal status of the OSCE and UN Observer Missions operating in South Ossetia and Abkhazia, said Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigori Karasin.

According to him it happened historically that the UN Observer Mission in Georgia operated in Abkhazia, and OSCE Observer Mission in Georgia – in South Ossetia.

"We believe that due to recognition of the independence of these two Caucasus states by Russia the status of the two Missions should be changed”, said Karasin.
